PHOTO RELEASE: Build America Caucus Spotlights ROAD to Housing Bill
WASHINGTON – Today, the bipartisan Build America Caucus held a roundtable discussion with a panel of housing policy experts to discuss growing momentum for new bipartisan legislation to build more homes and decrease regulatory slowdowns. The latest of a series of policy discussions, today’s roundtable on the Renewing Opportunity in the American Dream (ROAD) to Housing Act was hosted by Chair Josh Harder (CA-09) and Rep. Laura Friedman (CA-30). Companion legislation recently passed out of committee in the U.S. Senate.
The hour-long panel focused on:
- The scale of the housing shortage today and why new federal action is needed.
- Growing momentum for the ROAD to Housing Act.
- How the Caucus can help get this legislation signed into law ASAP.
“We haven’t passed a real housing bill in Congress since the 1970s, and working families are paying the price every single day,” said Chair Harder. “It’s gotten way too hard to build more homes, and the Build America Caucus is laser-focused on changing that by cutting costly red tape. This roundtable brought together the best ideas from an impressive panel of experts so we can get serious about solving America’s housing crisis, and I’m excited about passing policy to get America building again.”
“It was great to help lead today’s roundtable with Rep. Harder,” said Rep. Friedman. “It’s clear from our conversation that there’s strong bipartisan support to cut red tape, lower housing costs, and make sure every American has access to an affordable place to live. I’m proud to be part of the bipartisan Build America Caucus, which is on the front lines of turning these policy ideas into action.”
Panelists at the roundtable included Alex Armlovich – Senior Housing Policy Analyst at the Niskanen Center, Bryan Greene – Vice President of Policy Advocacy at the National Association of Realtors, Mike Kingsella – Chief Executive Officer of Up for Growth, and Lake Coulson – Senior Vice President for Government Affairs and Chief Lobbyist at the National Association of Home Builders (NAHB).
Since its launch in May, the Build America Caucus, chaired by Rep. Josh Harder (CA-09), has grown to more than 30 bipartisan Members united by one mission: cutting red tape and unleashing America’s potential.
